SUBJUNCTIVE
The subjunctive tense is used when:
 * there is a change of subject
 * a hope, wish, desire, or doubt is expressed
ex. I hope that we have homework.

TO FORM THE SUBJUNTIVE IN A SENTENCE
verb #1 (in present) + que + verb #2(in subjunctive)
I hope that we have homework.
Espero que tengamos tarea.

FORMATION
 use the "yo" form of the present tense and add the endings.
* the endings are those of the present tense, but switch the "ar" and the "er/ir" endings..

ENDINGS AR ER/IR  ex. HABLAR CORRER
yo  e a   hable  corra
tu  es as   hables  corras
el/ella/usted e  a   hable  corra
nosotros/as emos amos   hablemos corramos
ellos/as  en an   hablen  corran

SPELL CHANGERS
if ends in then changes to ex.
-gar  -gue   jugar-juegue
-car  -que   tocar-toque
-zar  -ce   empezar-empece
-guar  -gue   averiguar-averigue
-ger  -ja   coger-coja
-gir  -ja   dirigir- dirija
-guir  -ga   distinguir-distinga

IRREGULARS
saber  dar  estar  ser  ir  ver
sepa   de  este  sea  vaya  vea
sepas  des  estes  seas  vayas  veas
sepa  de  este  sea  vaya  vea
sepamos demos  estemos seamos  vayamos veamos
sepan  den  esten  sean  vayan  vean
 
 
 
 
 

don't forget "crazy yos" from the present tense.
ex.
tener-tenga venir-venga valer-valga
poner-ponga decir-diga
hacer-haga salir-salga
traer-traiga caer-caiga
IMPERSONAL EXPRESSIONS
the subjunctive is also used when impersonal expressions are used.
impersonal expression + conjugated subjunctive verb.
ex.
es lastima que- it's a shame that
es bueno que- it's good that
es malo que- it's bad that
es pena que- it's a pity that
es importante que- it's important that
es necesario que- it's necesary that
es dudoso que- it's doubtful that
